DataWORKS Journey
Explore the milestones that have shaped DataWORKS into a leader in educational research and training.
1997

Foundation of DataWORKS
DataWORKS Educational Research, founded in 1997, started with the goal of improving student learning by analyzing real data, initially focusing on disaggregated student achievement data from standardized tests.
DataWORKS has worked with hundreds of schools at the national, state, county, district, and school level training teachers across the US and around the world. Over the years, DataWORKS has collected and analyzed over 2 million student assignments and worked in over 25,000 classrooms.
Soon after evaluating the data, Dr. Silvia Ybarra and team shifted their focus to examining classroom teaching practices, realizing that improving instruction directly impacted student outcomes, leading to the development of their core approach, “Explicit Direct Instruction” (EDI).

2005

Expansion of Services
From its founding in 1997, DataWORKS Educational Research rapidly became a leader in evidence-based instructional strategies, revolutionizing how educators deliver lessons and improve student achievement.
While Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) remains a cornerstone of their approach, the organization expanded its services significantly between 1997 and 2005 to support teachers, schools, and districts in implementing research-driven instruction. During this period, DataWORKS broadened its impact through a comprehensive range of services designed to elevate teaching effectiveness.
By 2005, DataWORKS had partnered with over 750 schools and districts across 25 U.S. states and 10 countries. These collaborations led to measurable improvements in student achievement and teacher effectiveness, reinforcing the impact of research-driven education.
The expansion of DataWORKS’ services from 1997 to 2005 solidified its reputation as a trusted partner in educational improvement. By combining professional development, coaching, curriculum support, and data-driven insights, the organization empowered educators to create more effective, engaging, and research-based learning environments—helping students achieve their highest potential.
2015

Nationwide Recognition
Between 2005 and 2015, DataWORKS Educational Research continued to advance its mission of enhancing student learning by expanding its services and embracing digital innovation. Building upon the success of Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI), the organization introduced new platforms and resources to support educators worldwide.
In response to the growing demand for accessible, high-quality instructional materials, DataWORKS launched Educeri, an online platform offering a vast library of +3,000 ready-to-teach lessons. These lessons, grounded in EDI principles, provided educators with standards-based content designed to improve student outcomes. The platform featured interactive lessons across various subjects and grade levels, enabling teachers to deliver effective instruction with ease.
During this decade, DataWORKS expanded its professional development offerings, providing educators with comprehensive training in EDI methodologies. This included workshops, instructional coaching, and curriculum development services tailored to meet the diverse needs of schools and districts. By 2015, DataWORKS had collaborated with over 750 schools and districts across 25 U.S. states and 10 countries, impacting more than 75,000 classrooms worldwide.
