Progress monitoring toward clear learning goals. Students need to understand where they’re going and be able to track their own growth toward specific, measurable objectives.

Dr. Clark doesn’t mince words about the implications of this research. “We know, and there’s very little dispute about what we know, that this more direct, engaging, explicit, guided instruction is the best for students,” he emphasizes. “Then there’s a moral and an ethical imperative to adopt it.”
