Curriculum Calibration
The first step in improving test scores is measuring and monitoring that students are taught exactly at grade level because state tests assess grade-level content. In addition, the students are held back when taught below grade level because they can achieve no higher than the grade level of the assignments they’re given. DataWORKS’ Curriculum Calibration measures the exact alignment of student assignments collected from your school to state standards. It is the only accurate method of determining if your students are being taught on grade level because it measures the actual "taught" curriculum, the student work. It is much more informative than looking at text books, the "adopted" curriculum.

Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI)
The Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) model is DataWORKS’ implementation of the lesson delivery method that is the most effective and efficient, especially for increasing achievement of low performing students. It is supported by the California Department of Education.
When students can successfully complete grade-level work every day, test scores take care of themselves. EDI focuses on the design and delivery of effective lessons that generate a high success rate for students on grade-level assignments.
EDI training includes an overview of how to integrate differentiated instruction so all students can learn, plus SDAIE strategies to accelerate English Learners, and the use of brain based cognitive strategies that increase student retention of grade-level content.

Instructional Leadership
Effective instructional leaders don’t just manage facilities. Kids don’t become smarter as a result of the classroom walls being painted. Instructional leaders manage and continually improve the instruction in the classroom. No matter what a teacher’s ability is, students always learn more and learn faster every time the teacher’s delivery skills are improved.
DataWORKS Instructional Leadership guides administrators in taking their schools to the next level by setting SMART goals and by focusing on continuous improvement of teacher instructional skills so students learn more and learn faster.

Student Achievement Analysis
DataWORKS provides disaggregated results of student tests, and guides schools in interpreting the test results and in the use of the results to improve student achievement. DataWORKS provides assessment results to measure student growth and illustrates how to use the disaggregated student assessment results to zero in on specific areas to improve instruction. Then next year, and every future year, students will have been taught better, will know more, and will score higher.

DataWORKS Classroom Productivity Index (DPI)
Improving the effectiveness of classroom instruction is the key to improving student achievement and student learning. Ongoing measurements of instructional processes are important to ensure students are being taught in the most efficient and effective manner.
Through the DataWORKS Productivity Index training, administrators and teachers learn to optimize the four key components of classroom productivity: Time on Task, Alignment to Standards, Breadth of Standards, Instructional Effectiveness .

Parental/Community Involvement "No Parent Left Behind"
Although parents cannot be expected to teach content to their children (that’s the role of the school), they play an important role in supporting their students’ education. DataWORKS puts on a series of parental/community involvement meetings at the school. Several important topics are covered during the trainings. To increase attendance and make them convenient for parents to attend, the meeting is repeated during the day and evening. To reach more parents, the meetings are conducted in English and Spanish. Incentives, including food and a drawing for a free computer, are included to increase attendance.

Content Standards Alignment Guides
Assignments are on grade level if they match the state’s published content standards. Inclusion of an assignment in a textbook by a publisher does not define its grade level. The DataWORKS Content Standards Alignment Guides measure page by page the alignment of instructional resources to specific state content standards. The Guides are the foundation for schools to put in place proper curriculum pacing so that students are taught all the correct grade level standards before state test dates.

School Wide Instructional Practices Survey (SWIPS)
The SWIPS observations measure the amount of use of essential classroom instructional practices that help students learn more and learn faster. The observations record information such as: Time on Task activities, Time off Task activities, Use of effective instructional practices, Higher Order Questioning (Bloom’s Taxonomy), Cognitive Strategies to help students remember, English Learner (SDAIE) strategies to accelerate English Learners, and Classroom Management. The instructional leader must accompany the DataWORKS researcher during part of the observations to be trained in observation techniques.
