EDI® Teach Writing Lesson Plan Feedback

A DataWORKS researcher goes to the school to provide feedback on lessons written and designed by teachers to teach writing to students. Instructional leaders must attend to learn how to give Lesson Feedback to teachers to support effective and ongoing implementation.

Why is Explicit Direct Instruction to Teach Writing Lesson Plan Feedback valuable?
Meeting with teachers and providing feedback on their lessons facilitates rapid and correct implementation of the strategies covered during the workshop. Students don’t benefit from staff development that is not implemented.

How does it work?
A DataWORKS researcher goes to the school to provide feedback on lessons written and designed by teachers to teach writing to students. Typically, the school uses roving subs to periodically pull out groups of teachers. The teachers meet with a DataWORKS researcher to review the lessons they have written. Feedback is given on the strategies used to teach writing, alignment to standards, and use of effective lesson delivery components. Typically, teachers are pulled out by grade level or content area to meet in a conference room provided by the school. This process should be repeated until all teachers can design lessons that effectively teach writing to all students.
